Our Picks for the Holiday Season
1-Biscotti’s scarlet bubble dress will certainly make your little girl the belle of the ball. Constructed of taffeta and velvet, this party dress is a stunner. Available in a version for baby or for an older sister, the three styles are simply stunning. $93 at La Bella Flora Children’s Boutique.
2-The Mr. Holiday outfit from Crazy 8’s is a real stunner, not only for the price but for the versatility of each piece. Pair the Herringbone jacket, argyle vest, dress shirt, pinstripe tie and corduroy pant together to wow the crowd or purchase a few pieces separately to tone it down a bit. The entire outfit is just $87.50 (or for $38.50 pair the shirt, tie and vest with a pair of pants already in his wardrobe)!
3-We love this Velveteen Jumper from Gymboree. Ultra soft and wrapped with a silk dupioni plaid sash, this dress is perfect for the holiday season. On sale for $31, available in sizes 3-12.
4-Meli Meli has done it again! We simply adore the Meli Meli line and this ruffle dress is no exception. Available in gold and silver, the dress is 100% silk and 100% fabulous. Available in sizes 4-8, $245 at It’s a Rag Doll’s Life.
5-Ralph Lauren’s Eilis dress is a favorite of ours because of it’s comfort and flared skirt. We adore the smocked sleeves and bib collar for a jazzed up look on a simple style. $78, Saks Fifth Avenue.
6-How handsome will your little man look in this outfit by J.Crew’s crewcuts line! We paired their argyle vest, check point-collar shirt and critter chino’s with their suede bucks shoes to create this adorable look. Crewcuts styles are available in sizes 2 through 10 at Jcrew.com.
7-For a classic look we paired Gap’s red v-neck sweater with a pair of dressy cords. Sweater, $24.50; Cords, $29.50.
8-Piperlime is our favorite online shoe store for kids as well as mom and dad. We found these beautiful Mia Kids and Kenneth Cole Reaction shoes that are styled just like mom’s but fit little feet. Kenneth Cole’s Cross Bow shoes are Ballet inspired and topped with a bow, and topping the look is the quilted fabric; $45. The Mia Kids Bella shoes are satin with lace and has velvet accents, $35.
9-This gorgeous red corduroy dress by Tommy & Fern is simply stunning. We love the ruffled details at the neckline and the large beautiful black tie at the waist. $90, sizes 5 and 6 only.
Spice up your Mac and Cheese with The Sneaky Chef
With Thanksgiving around the corner, the big feast may be on your mind as well as the food fight you know is going to come with it. If you’re a mom who has brought Mac and Cheese to Thanksgiving dinner for your children, this year make it healthy Mac and Cheese!
Missy Chase Lapine, Mrs. Sneaky Chef herself and the author of a groundbreaking new book, The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals (Running Press, March 2007), has provided us with a tasty recipe that uses your child’s staple food and applied her magical twist that not only adds vegetables but it tastes the same leaving your kids and you happy!
"SNEAKY TIP: Yellow macaroni and cheese usually contains yellow food dye, whereas the white version does not. If your child insists on yellow, you can add a slice of yellow American or cheddar cheese and a dash of paprika to the white cheese sauce, which will help safely change the color to yellow without affecting the taste.
Each of the nutritional boosters listed here have been kid tested and have proven to be undetectable in taste, texture and color. Start by adding the least amount recommended of just one of the nutritional boosters listed below. Add a little more each time you serve this dish (which is served in our house every day!).
* 2 to 4 tablespoons White Puree (see Make-Ahead Recipe #4)
Prepare macaroni and cheese according to directions on package. Add White Puree into the cheese sauce, mixing until well blended. If sauce becomes too dry, simply add an extra tablespoon of milk and extra cheese (See below).
* 2 to 4 tablespoons Orange Puree (See Make-Ahead Recipe #2)
Prepare macaroni and cheese according to directions on package. Add Orange Puree into the cheese sauce, mixing until well blended. This one works best with an extra slice of American cheese or 1/4 cup of grated cheddar melted into the sauce to help mask the carrots, which have a bit more distinguishable taste, in the puree. "
